Parade
July 27, 2007

This year's annual Aurora Puerto Rican Parade will be held on Sunday July 27, 2007.  All applications to participate in the parade will be due July 18, 2007. No exceptions.  All parts to the application must be submitted at this time.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Submittal of an application does not mean that you will be in the parade either. New rules, initiated last year, give us a limit on how many can participate in the parade.

Parade Theme: A Tribute to the Cuatro
1-2-3... CUATRO!

The theme for this year's Aurora Puerto Rican Parade is A Tribute to the Cuatro!

The parade unit participants that celebrates this theme the best will receive the Director's Choice Award.

The Cuatro is the National Instrument of Puerto Rico. There are many types of Cuatros including a 4-string, 8-string, and 10 string style. There are also many types of different sound box designs. While the origin of the Cuatro is debatable, the profound influence it has had on Puerto Rican music is not. From traditional jibaro music to modern salsa hits-the distinguishable sounds of the Cuatro is something for all Puerto Ricans to cherish. The parade committee wants to educate the youth, while reminding the adults, of the significance that this guitar-like instrument has in the Puerto Rican culture.
